Sport Injuries

We pride ourselves on the fact that we are able to manage all comers with sport injuries according to their specific requirements and according to international standard-of-care treatment guidelines, in order to bring them back to their previous level of competition as soon as possible.

As a general rule, sports injuries tend to involve the stabilising structures of the various joints (muscles, tendons and ligaments). It has become clear, with current research and the latest imaging investigations, that these injuries are never as simple as that and often involve secondary bone and cartilage damage, which, if not picked up and treated correctly, may result in rapid onset arthritis of joints such as the hip and the knee as well as permanent inability to play competitive sport.

We realise that sports injuries, especially in high-end professional sportsmen are devastating occurrences. A knee-jerk reaction to early surgery as the treatment is, however, often ill-advised and may result in poor outcomes. At the Cape Joint Surgery, we emphasize non-surgical management whenever possible, combined with intensive specialist physiotherapy rehabilitation as soon as possible. Our results with top professional sportspeople speak for themselves.

Areas of specialist interest:

Meniscal injury

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury

Other knee ligament injury

Femero-aceytabular impingement / hip labral tear
