Dr Deon Engela
Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon
Deon has 25 years of experience in hip, knee and hand surgery and works at Constantiaberg Mediclinic in Cape town. He is affiliated to UCT department of Othopaedic surgery and does charity hip and knee replacements for state patients as founder member of The Joint Care trust a registered NPO. Deon Engela did a Hip and Knee replacement fellowship in the United Kingdom for one year (1993) after qualification. He was appointed as an Orthopaedic Consultant in the Joint Replacement Unit (1994) in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he practiced as a consultant doing mainly Hip replacement, Knee Replacement surgery and research.

Dr Engela attended the EFORT meeting in June 2011, Copenhagen ,Denmark where the European surgeons present their perspective on what is good and what is not. This is an interesting meeting that deals with most aspects of Orthopaedics. A very well organized meeting with many interesting topics.
Dr Engela attended the ISAKOS meeting in Brazil, May 2011. The latest research in biological management of joint muscle and tendon injuries were discussed at a special symposium. The rest of the meeting was very informative with aspects of arthroscopic hip and knee surgery dis cussed and demonstrated.
Dr Engela demonstrated the latest techniques in Total Hip Replacement utilizing cementless implants to visiting surgeons from Austria at Constantiaberg Mediclinic on Monday 16 November 2009.
On Saturday 28 November 2009 Dr Engela lectured at Vincent Pallotti Hospital on Chronic Wrist pain at a Hand Therapist Symposium.
In April 2009 Dr Engela attended the ISAKOS 2009 in Osaka, Japan.
Dr Nick Martin
Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon
Nick was born in Cape Town, attended the German School and graduated from UCT Medical School in 1997. He worked in an orthopaedic surgery medical officer position for several years and then as an orthopaedic SHO in Ireland at Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital. He then specialised in orthopaedic surgery at UCT and qualified in 2008. He worked as a hi- and knee reconstruction fellow at Groote Schuur Hospital and Vincent Pallotti Hospital for 18 months and he has been in private practice with Deon Engela at Constantiaberg Mediclinic since 2010. He is married to Nadia and they have three boys.
