The NHI bill has been signed into law on 15 May 2024. There is currently no clarity on whether the services provided by Cape Joint Surgery will continue to be covered by your medical schemes.
Our main surgical procedures are hip and knee joint replacement surgery and knee arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction. Potential expiry of medical aid coverage for these procedures has now effectively become a relative indication for surgery, should the patient qualify.
In order to be able to provide a screening service, we have set up an NHI assessment consultation. Patients who make use of the service will be clinically and radiologically reviewed and informed whether they should consider undergoing any of these surgical procedures while their medical aid cover is in place.
